Dinner in Pembroke CollegeThe Building Surveyors' Oxford Briefing 2009 will be taking place the weekend of 4 - 6 September 2009 at Pembroke College, Oxford. Celebrating its 25th year in 2009, the Building Surveyors' Oxford Briefing has maintained its reputation as a highly successful event year after year. For 2009, the organising committee has put together a first class programme of topics and speakers which will continue to inform and entertain, and provide time for meeting up with friends and associates.

The keynote address will be made by Tony Bingham, barrister and arbitrator. For those who do not know of him, Tony Bingham has specialised in building construction as an arbitrator, adjudicator, mediator and barrister. As well as that, he is a writer, commentator and lecturer, with his column in Building now in its 15th year.

Topics and speakers for 2009 are:

  • Repairing old buildings: traditional materials, new ideas - Marianne Suhr MRICS, historic buildings surveyor and presenter on the BBC TV series Restoration.
  • Building regulations Part L (conservation of fuel and power) - Jonathan Hart Associates, M&E consultants.
  • Schedules of condition and dilapidations - Peter Tubberdy FRICS, University of Westminister.
  • Construction law update - Keith Blizzard FRICS.
  • Boundary disputes - David Powell FRICS.
  • Building pathology - Geoff Hunt FRICS, expert in building defects and publisher of the Architectural Timeline.
  • Intelligent builidngs - Prof Derek Clements-Croome, Reading University

Helen Gough, chairman of the RICS Building Surveying professional group, will provide an update on RICS affairs.

Speaker in St Aldate's ChurchThe weekend conference offers options for residential and non-residential delegates. Residential delegates may attend from Friday evening through to noon on Sunday, with all meals provided, including a gala dinner on Saturday evening. Non-residential delegates may attend on Saturday from 9.00am to 5.30pm, and on Sunday from 10.15am to 12.30pm.
